Several states around the U.S. are starting to cool down with autumn just around the corner. But in Texas, it’s still hot, hot, hot. We keep seeing advertisement for Pumpkin Spice Latte’s but with the heat index being in the 100’s, the only thing us Texans want to drink is something ice cold. Unless you are one of those people who love all things pumpkin spice, we have just the thing for you! We have put together a list of different pumpkin spiced flavored treats for you to make at home!

With the fall season approaching, another thing we like to do is make our homes smell warm and inviting. We cook heavenly scented food, buy fall scented candles and bust out the fall Scentsy and Scentsy warmers. We also start to bring out the fall decor (keep an eye out for our blog on tips to decorate for fall coming soon!) Here are some other tips on how to make your home smell like the seasons!

  • Heat up a simmer pot- Fill a pot with water, fruit and whole spices. Bring to a boil then simmer on low heat and prepare for a full day of aromatic awesomeness. Be sure to top up the water level while it’s simmering. Try these ingredients: cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, star anise, halved apples, orange peels, apple juice, vanilla extract, evergreen/pine needles, bay leaves, lavender, mint, essential oils.
  • Make your own pumpkin pie potpourri- Use a pumpkin incense burner to suggest the cozy scent of pie just out of the oven. All you need is a whole pumpkin, a few tools, and some baking spices from your pantry. To start, cut off the pumpkin’s top and scrape out the innards, and carve round vents with an apple corer. Rub cinnamon or pumpkin-pie spices onto the lid, or push cloves into it. With a tea light candle inside, the pumpkin will give off a lovely fragrance for about six hours.
  • Buy seasonal air freshener.
  • DIY Cinnamon Pine cones- With a basket full of pine cones, essential oils, and cinnamon sticks you can make your own cinnamon pine cones that are better than store-bought! Follow this step-by-step guide to DIY your own cinnamon pine cones, here.

Now that we have given you some tips on how to get your kitchen and your house fall-ready, we highly recommend that you go and drink a big glass of ice water, a chilled glass of wine or an ice cold beer. After all, it is still summer and the heat in Texas is HOT. Don’t worry.. you still have until mid- October until the weather cools off just enough to actually prepare for fall.
